This represents a first attempt at milling matched dies, something I came across in Gerald Wingrove's The Complete Car Modeller (a perpetual source of inspiration!). The result wouldn't qualify as text-book material but it actually worked quite well. I managed to break a couple of very expensive miniature mill-bits in the process of manufacturing it, probably because the maximum speed of my mill (3000 RPM) is a few thousand RPM too slow for very small miller diameters. The embossing ridges on the left-hand plate were made by milling three channels to a depth of 0.2 mm which then received lengths of 0.4mm rod. The corresponding slots on the other plate were milled with a 0.6mm bit.
